Yes, I know that Keith Richards is still alive, but the title just seemed to fit. The Rolling Stones will never die. They can't, and so I did a drawing of Keith who I think is awesome. It's my first portrait in... oh at least 5 years, so I'm really rusty.
The idea is that where ever the light really touches, he's a skull and in shadow he's normal. Or at least as Normal as Keith can be.
Ref was used, however I aged him considerably so that it more closely resembles the present Keith in stead of when the pic was taken.
I hope you like it!
About 15 hours spent on it. Hb, B, and 4B pencils on Vellum Bristol Board
excellent work, the transition is wonderfully executed and the concept rocks (quite literally)
my only suggestion would be to go back and darken a few areas on the like the corner of the lips, the chin, the dark side of the face, the corner of the eye, and the eye socket on the opposite side. that should make the picture "pop" as my former art teacher would say.
but for the first portrait drawing in five years, this is pretty kick butt.
Yeah, I know what you mean, and I had originally wanted to do that. The problem was I didn't want to use and of the high b's because they give such a porous look, and layering with an HB can only get you so dark before you start imprinting the paper. It was my fault for starting the side so dark in the first place, so it was a mistake I just had to live with. *shrug*
